MSAC hosted an expediting workshop for law clerks of the 10th Judicial District on January 13, 2005, from 9:00 to 1:00 P.M. at the Government Center. We were among a panel of providers who work with these clients. MSAC expeditors received credit for this training. Expeditors: If you were not there, please pick up a training folder for your information. We will try to insert one in your mediation packet when you come in, or you may request one.

COMMUNITY DISPUTE RESOLUTION: EMPOWERMENT AND SOCIAL JUSTICE: The Origins, History and Future of a Movement
by Paul Wahrhaftig

With a short title like that it's got to be good! This book is history, from my perspective as a pioneer and chronicler of the community dispute resolution movement between 1973 and 2004. I focus on the evolving concept of "community empowerment" and the importance of keeping the goal of affecting positive social change in the forefront of program priorities.

We are seeking people who have an interest in peacemaking, and who qualify in one or several of these other areas.  Everyone who is interested should apply, however, whether you meet these criteria or not.

1) Demonstrate high commitment to offering mediation services to people currently underserved (e.g. economically disadvantages, and/or culturally and racially diverse communities);

2) Are from culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds or have experience working with diverse communities (e.g. proficient in a second language);

3) Have flexible schedules and occasional daytime availability;

4) Are male.

"Large group mediation is an exciting and an emotionally taxing experience for the mediator, but the uniqueness of mediating a large group offers a very challenging and rewarding experience.
A large group mediation can be labor/management relationships, intradepartmental or between departments, board/staff issues, or divisive issues within a church, for example.  It may be an organization looking for a better system or way to change their culture."
