Please welcome our new Executive Director, Bernadette Foh.
Ms. Foh succeeds Ms. Carol Markham-Cousins upon Markham-Cousins’s recent departure from MARS to focus on her PhD dissertation, and spend more time traveling and being with family and friends. Ms. Carol Markham-Cousins plans to continue to be involved with restorative healing work in the metro community. The Board, staff, and volunteers of MARS are extremely grateful for the six years of service and leadership that Ms. Carol Markham-Cousins provided to the organization, and the fields of mediation and restorative practices.
Foh is a dynamic executive with extensive experience in leading teams, building collaborative partnerships and has proven success through cultural competence, implementing change, achieving workforce excellence and optimal programmatic success. She comes to Mediation and Restorative Services with an extensive background in social justice, advocacy, lobbying, leadership development, programming development and engagement, policy development, diversity equity inclusion and accessibility strategist. She is well versed in working in tandem with the county, state and federal entities to address community needs.
Foh was born the oldest girl of 13 children in Sierra Leone, West Africa in the coastal city of Freetown. Now a naturalized citizen of the United States, Foh earned an MBA in Health Care Administration and Management from St. Catherine University in St. Paul and completed her first-year coursework in the LL.M. program at the University of Minnesota Law School. She later completed her juris doctorate at the University of Minnesota Law School. Throughout her 15 years in the non-profit industry, Foh has filled notable positions like Executive Director/CEO Bridges of Hope, Chief Development Officer Open Cities Health Center, Policy Analyst for various organizations, and has provided numerous Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility consulting for various organizations.
